125 Years Church Celebration

Bury St Edmunds Church Celebrates 125 Years of Ministry and Mission

Last weekend, the Bury St Edmunds Seventh-day Adventist Church, affectionately known as the “Little Green Church” or “Tin Tabernacle,” joyfully celebrated the 125th anniversary of its historic building.

The weekend’s theme—“Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Building the Future”—was brought to life through heartfelt worship, music, and reflection. Pastor Anthony Opoku-Mensah delivered a powerful sermon, “God Is Looking for You”, based on Genesis 3:1–9. Special music included a hymn by church founder Ruby Pierce and an original composition by 10-year-old Anna Costa, reflecting both legacy and future hope.

Local historian Martyn Taylor opened the afternoon programme with an engaging talk on the building’s origins. Former pastors and special guests, including SEC Communication Director Pastor Sorin Petrof, inspired the congregation with messages of mission and spiritual heritage.

The Mayor of Thetford, Carla Barreto, honoured the church’s community work, particularly in serving migrants and minority groups. Sunday’s Community Fun Day capped the weekend with joy and outreach to the wider community.

The church remains committed to being a hub of inclusion and service, offering wellbeing support, health screenings, community meals, and space for local groups. We give thanks for God’s faithfulness over 125 years, and trust Him to lead us forward.
